Rudiger denounces a journalist for linking him to the terrorist group ISIS

German journalist Julian Reichelt was reported to the police after accusing Real Madrid and German national team center back Antonio Rudiger of being linked to ISIS. The controversy broke out when Rudiger uploaded a photo to his Instagram profile of him wearing a white robe, sitting on a prayer rug while he pointed his right index finger upward to wish “Happy Ramadan.”

After the publication, journalist Julian Reichelt denounced in “X” that Rudiger’s attitude was similar to that of ISIS. “For all those who do not want to recognize Antonio Rudiger’s Islamist salute as an Islamist salute: the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution calls this gesture the ‘ISIS finger’ and sees the index finger as a clear sign of Islamism,” he wrote.

Rudiger and the German Football Federation (DFB) have been quick to react to these accusations. The Real Madrid footballer has filed a criminal complaint with the Berlin prosecutor’s office for insults, defamation and instigation.

The DFB also reported Reichelt’s writings as hate speech to the Central Office for Combating Internet Crime (ZIT) in Frankfurt or to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

However, far from retracting, the journalist insisted on his accusations on social networks. “I just found out from the media that Antonio Rüdiger and the DFB denounced me because in an Instagram post I pointed out that Rüdiger was showing the Islamist salute. This gesture has been completely co-opted over the last two decades. Without a doubt, it is has become a salute to ISIS and Islamic killers around the world, to the same people who committed murder in Berlin and brought immeasurable disaster and suffering to the world,” Reichelt wrote.

“Whoever poses like this in public consciously shows a fanatical greeting and not an innocent spiritual attitude. This is the normalization of an ugly ideology that has taken over too many spaces in this country. Especially since it is a popular national player. “No let yourselves be intimidated. “It is important to keep in mind that this political ideology goes against all of our values,” Reichelt added.

“The index finger of Islam, with which terrorists around the world celebrate his assassination, does not belong to Germany. I will never let anyone stop me from saying that,” he concluded.

Rudiger is not the first Real Madrid footballer to suffer this type of accusation. Last October, Karin Benzema was involved in a true political hurricane in France. The Minister of the Interior of France, Gérald Darmanin, dropped a real bombshell when he accused the French footballer of having “notorious links with the Muslim Brotherhood”, an Islamic organization considered terrorist in France. Some statements that came just after the forward positioned himself in favor of the Palestinian people in Israel’s War against Hamas. The Al-Ittihad player ended up filing a complaint against Gérald Darmanin for defamation.
