Thibau Nys gives everything in his victory and leadership in Romandie

MADRID, 25 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Belgian cyclist Thibau Nys (Lidl-Trek) starred this Thursday in the second stage of the 77th edition of the Tour de Romandie, with a breakaway throughout the day and still having the strength to win the final sprint that also gave him the provisional overall.

Nys, 21, became the new leader after taking part in the breakaway of six riders that he led in the second stage held between Freiburg and Les Marécottes (Salvan) over 172 kilometers. Only the Belgian and the Italian Andrea Vendrame (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) endured the demanding Swiss route.

Between the two of them and the Australian Luke Plapp (Ineos-Grenadiers), who also caught up with them, surviving the seven-kilometer climb with which the stage ended, they played the sprint. Nys hid his attack until the last meters and took the double prize of winning the stage and leading the overall standings.

The French runner Dorian Godon, from Decathlon AG2R, who had won the first round on Wednesday, gave up his chances of defending the lead three kilometers from the finish line at the Les Marécottes station. The best Spaniards are Enric Mas (Movistar Team) and Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates), 26 and 27 seconds overall. For this Friday, the third stage will be a 15-kilometer individual time trial in Oron.
