The defeat in the third round in Miami against Tomas Machac (CZE/ATP 60) was doubly bitter for Andy Murray (ATP 62). On the one hand, the Brit gave up a 5:3 lead in the tiebreak of the deciding set. On the other hand, Murray tore several ligaments in his foot in the exhausting game, as he said Instagram communicates.
He will meet with an ankle specialist upon his return home and determine the next steps, writes Murray, who is facing a long break. Despite all the adversity, the 36-year-old hasn’t lost his sense of humor. “When the time is right, I will come back with 1 hip and no ankle ligaments,” said Murray.
Race against time
A few weeks ago, the 3-time Grand Slam champion announced the end of his career after this summer. The last major goal of the physically ailing Murray is to take part in Wimbledon (July 1st to 14th) and the Olympic tennis tournament in Paris at the Roland Garros facility (July 27th to August 4th).
