Ready for the home European Championships 2024?

Not long ago there was disinterest, alienation and frustration. The football people’s renewed desire for black, red and gold inevitably raises the question: How did that happen? There are two answers.

Thomas Müller once invented his nickname himself when he tried to summarize his unorthodox style of play in one word. Since then, Müller has also been called: Raumdeuter. He lived up to his nickname on Tuesday in Frankfurt during the German national soccer team’s 2-1 victory over the Netherlands. On the lawn he spies spaces that others don’t see. Away from the pitch, Müller senses something that many others now sense too: “It was always felt in the room that we actually have the potential to become a great football nation. The nice thing is that it has now been confirmed.”

The change in mood in the future “great football nation” in the past few days is remarkable. At the beginning of spring a week ago, there was still a mixture of disinterest, alienation and frustration when thinking about the first team of the German Football Association (DFB). Now summer and the European Championships, which don’t start until June 14th, can’t come fast enough. The football people’s suddenly renewed desire for black, red and gold inevitably raises the question: How did that happen? There are two answers: one simple and one not so simple.
