Proposed Plan to Save the VBO and Elevate Badminton in the Netherlands

You have the news, we have a little bit!

Michael van Santen, Danny Birahy and Bart Jan Botterman – all three involved VBO members – wrote a submitted piece that they would like to share with the members of the VBO and other readers who feel involved in the Dutch sport of badminton.

PLEASE NOTE: on the weekend of Saturday March 30, members of the VBO will receive an invitation to a special members meeting. It is valuable to take note of the submitted document below before this members meeting.

Contributed piece

It would be good to be able to keep the VBO. We, a group of enthusiastic badminton friends, have put our heads together since last week’s announcement. And ask the members of the VBO to be open and curious about our proposal to keep the VBO afloat.

The VBO has had successes over the past 53 years and has provided many further training courses. There has been a social shift during and after the corona period. And that has led to where the VBO is now.

Goal

This group would like to be given the opportunity by its members to develop a plan to make the VBO a successfully operating organization. And thus taking the sport of badminton to a higher level. This is done by offering training and further training at various levels for trainers and associations, which meet the wishes and requirements of today’s society.

What do we propose?

We ask the members of the General Meeting to agree to the further election of the board we propose. All this with the step-by-step plan and conditions stated below.

Step-by-step plan for new structure:

  • March / April: email to the members with the composition of the board and the various committee members
  • April / May: an active website that is updated weekly by the webmaster within the group
  • from May: publishing a technical newsletter once every six to eight weeks
  • September / October: a license-worthy further training in a new style
  • November: evaluation of further training in new style
  • January / February 2025: presenting the plans for the new VBO to the members
  • February / March 2025: AGM

Conditions:

  • A. the current board and committee members resign and everything is transferred to the group and the new board to be formed
  • B. the group has a whole year to set up and develop these plans step by step

Members of the group:

The following people have already committed to take on a position within the new organization:

  • Michael van Santen – member of the VBO
  • Danny Birahy – member of the VBO
  • Bart Jan Botterman – member of the VBO
  • Clemens Wortel – former chairman of BNL and now legal advisor to BWF
  • Roy Mulder – professional trainer (former Mals Italy, now Denmark)
  • Tim Theunissen – former top player
  • Rik Enneking – senior program manager, strategy & implementation Utrecht University of Applied Sciences

Everyone has a love for our beautiful sport badminton.

In addition to these people, we are in discussions with four people who have already agreed to provide assistance in any case.

And of course everything goes according to the articles of association, including the change of management.

Kind regards on behalf of the group,

Bart Jan Botterman
