Portugal’s Unstoppable Streak Continues Under Roberto Martínez

Roberto Martínez’s Portugal continues to overwhelm every rival in front of it. It doesn’t matter if he has Cristiano or not, if he lacks players or not, if he gives opportunities to less common players or not. His numbers are scary: 11 games, 11 wins, 41 goals for and 4 against.

The Portuguese team successfully beat Sweden despite the fact that they did not have the star from Madeira, who is on vacation for a few days before joining the camp and playing the second game against Slovenia. Roberto Martínez decided to split the group in two to test new people and also to give them a rest as starters like Cristiano.

Even so, several of the regulars left a great game with which to beat Sweden. Bruno Fernandes was splendid, as was Bernardo Silva. The first goal was scored by Rafael Leao taking advantage of a loose ball. Before the break Matheus Nunes and Bruno had also scored in a flurry of play and chances.

The changes at half-time allowed us to see new faces, for example Bruma. The Braga winger took advantage of the opportunity to score, as did Gonçalo Ramos. Another who was fantastic was full-back Nelson Semedo, who gave two assists reminiscent of his best times.

There was little news from Sweden but in the last half hour they scored two goals, one of them from Gyokeres, without a doubt one of the fittest strikers in Europe right now. It’s a pity that he doesn’t have a team by his side to accompany him. Not, of course, to stand up to this unstoppable Portugal.
