Poland Qualifies for Euro 2024 After Dramatic Win Over Wales

Poland qualified for the Euro by beating Wales 4-5 on penalties, the score being 0-0 after 120 minutes, in the play-off final (path A) on Tuesday in Cardiff. During the final phase in Germany, the Eagles will appear in Group D alongside France, the Netherlands and Austria.

The first period was very balanced between two teams well established in defense and not very creative in attack. The ball continued to move from one side to the other before the Dragons gained momentum and were denied a goal from Ben Davies for offside (45th+1)

At the restart, the Welsh continued to show the most in this jump-off. By heading a long cross from Neco Williams, Kieffer Moore scored the first shot of the match which Wojciech Szczesny kept away with a tap (49th). After this save from their goalkeeper, the Poles were a little more courageous but with the strike force on both sides, the score had not changed after normal time.

The first extra time was only animated by a long-range shot from Jakub Piotrowski (ex-Beveren and Genk) passing near the right post (99th). During the second half, the Welsh seemed a little flatter again and found themselves down to ten following the exclusion of Chris Mepham just before the penalty shootout (120th+1).

Earlier in the evening, Ukraine qualified for Euro 2024 by beating Iceland 2-1 in the play-off final (path B), at the Tarczynski Stadium in Wrocław, Poland. In Germany, Ukraine, which has not played at home for two years, will face Belgium, Romania and Slovakia in Group E.

Georgia also qualified for Euro-2024, which it will play for the first time in its history, by beating Greece on penalties (0-0, 4 tab to 2) in the play-off.
