Odermatt also won the ninth giant slalom of the season in Aspen

Odermatt lost 32 hundredths of a second to the fastest Alexander Steen Olsen in the Colorado center after the first run, but the Norwegian did not manage the second round and fell to 17th place after a mistake at the end. He finished second, just like Odermatt’s compatriot Loic Meillard on Friday, the Swiss were joined on the podium by Norwegian Timon Haugan.

“To win a race, you have to attack and take risks. But when you’re on an eleven-game winning streak, you can’t take chances all the time. You have to drive smart. I rode maybe too sensibly in the first round, so in the second I had to attack a lot and take risks,” Odermatt said, admitting that he feels more pressure with a long winning streak.

With his twelfth victory in the giant slalom in a row, the twenty-six-year-old Odermatt came close to Ingemar Stenmark, who is the only one with a longer streak in one discipline. The legendary Swede triumphed in fourteen giant slaloms in a row between 1978 and 1979. Until now, Odermatt was tied for second place in the all-time standings with Austrian Annemarie Moser-Pröll, who won eleven races in a row between 1972 and 1974.

If Odermatt wins the remaining two giant slaloms in the season, he can match Stenmark. He can also improve the record for the number of wins in one year. With 13 triumphs in all disciplines, he shares it with Stenmark and the Austrians Hermann Maier and Marcel Hirscher.

It can also expand the collection of trophies. He already secured the overall triumph in the SP series with a significant advance by winning the giant slalom in Palisades Tahoe last week. After the giant slalom, he can win two more small globes.
