Joshua Brenet’s Goal Secures Three Points for FC Twente in Victory Over Vitesse

FC Twente has three points left from the away match against Vitesse. Joshua Brenet was the match winner with his goal in the 79th minute in the ‘annual number 4 match’, in which club legend Theo Bos was commemorated.

After the draw with FC Volendam and the 1-2 victory over Excelsior, Vitesse entered the home game with FC Twente with a lot more self-confidence. That took exactly three minutes. Dominik Oroz defended very poorly, causing the ball to end up at the feet of former Vitesse player Ricky van Wolfswinkel. He didn’t think and hit the ball hard behind goalkeeper Eloy Room.

Behind or not, after four minutes everyone present in GelreDome applauded for club legend Theo Bos, who passed away eleven years ago. After a number of good chances for the visitors, it remained quiet for a long time for both goals. And as if it had to be this way: in the ‘annual number 4 match’, trendsetter Anis Hadj Moussa brought the crowd to the benches in the 44th minute. First because of a beautiful action with which he sent Michel Vlap into the woods, but then because his cross ended up behind reserve goalkeeper Przemysław Tytoń via Twente defender Robin Pröpper.

Both clubs went into halftime at 1-1. Ten minutes after halftime, Hadj Moussa saw his first goal in the Vitesse shirt canceled out. The home team seemed to be looking for a goal the most and came close in minute 68. Through a beautiful attack by Mexx Meerdink, the ball came to Kacper Kozlowski. His shot hit the outside of the post. Two minutes later, Joseph Oosting’s team made themselves heard for the first time after the break, but substitute Myron Boadu could not pass Room.

It seemed like the starting signal for an offensive by the Tukkers. In the 78th minute, the ball ended up at the feet of Joshua Brenet through a scramble. The right back coolly hit the target and gave Twente the three points. The number three in the Eredivisie now has fifty points after 24 Eredivisie matches. Vitesse has both feet on the ground again after two games without a loss. Due to the defeat of RKC (1-0 at Go Ahead Eagles), the gap in the play-off spot is still two points.
