Masters in Rome: Tennis professionals Hanfmann and Maria in round two

Yannick Hanfmann reached the second round of the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome without much trouble. The 32-year-old tennis professional from Karlsruhe clearly won his opening game against the Czech Jakub Mensik 6:3, 6:2 in the Italian capital on Wednesday.

Hanfmann only needed 87 minutes for his success at the top clay court event. The tournament in Rome is the last important assessment before the French Open in Paris, which begins on May 26th.

In the afternoon, qualifier Maximilian Marterer was eliminated from the clay court tournament; the Nuremberg native lost 4:6, 2:6 to local hero Flavio Cobolli.

Maria now against Kassatkina

In the women’s category, Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) followed Angelique Kerber in round two. Maria (36) beat Linda Fruhvirtova (Czech Republic) 7:6 (7:5), 3:6, 6:2, but now has a difficult task ahead of her. It’s against the Russian Darja Kassatkina, number 10 on the seeding list. In the third set against Fruhvirtova, Maria Breaks scored 4:2 and 6:2. Kerber had already beaten Lauren Davis (USA) on Tuesday (6:1, 6:0).
