CLINTON, Miss. (WLBT) – New Clinton head football coach John Carr has experience coaching at the high school and collegiate level. Carr most recently coached at the University of Louisiana-Monroe and is familiar with the school, town, and football program.
“Clinton, number one, I have recruited the school for a long time. I’m good friends with [Athletic Director Judd Boswell]. I’m very familiar with the expectations and the traditions at Clinton High School, I’ve been here for games on Friday night, I know how much the community comes out and supports the program,” Carr said. “To me at this point in my life, when I looked back at what I was wanting to do and accomplish, this was a dream come true for me to be the head football coach here. I’ve been here and seen all the things that this community provides, and I’m looking forward to me and my family getting here.”
Carr has only been in the area for a few days but he is starting to meet his players, and is looking forward to creating relationships with them.
“When you’re coming to a program, when you’re starting from scratch, you’re trying to learn everybody, get faces with names” he said. “I told them just be patient with me. I want to learn as much as I can about them, I look forward to getting to know them, their families, what makes them tick. I’m just trying to get in the flow of things. It’s going to take a little time, that can’t happen overnight, but I’m looking forward to the relationships and all those things that we’re going to be able to develop.”
Carr isn’t only just looking forward to settling into his role, he’s also looking forward to being a part of the Clinton community.
“I want to get out and community and be engaged in the community,” he said. “Get out there, meet folks, talk to people, and do what I can to sell our program and get the community excited about football. I’m eager and ready to get started.”
