30 Years of Badminton in Saint-Léger-les-Vignes: A Sport of Endurance and Community

The badminton section of the Saint-Léger-les-Vignes Sports Association (ASSL) celebrated its 30th anniversary and has gone through time without incident. It has sixty loyal members of a sport which requires great physical strength, far from beach games. You need endurance, dexterity, an overall vision of the game, technique, and good physical shape; it is a sport requiring travel. But it also takes will. Members learn by training twice a week at the Yves-Gayet room,” says Chang Wong, head of the section for a year and former player in a Nantes club.

The racket weighs only 100 grams

You have to be very mobile, very reactive to direct the racket which only weighs 100 g, but which must be effective in steering the shuttlecock. During training, we play doubles so that everyone has access to the match which lasts between fifteen and twenty minutes. We thus learn, by sharing knowledge, to have good reflexes, apply a strategy and discover the opponent’s game.

The ASSL offers to evolve only for leisure. The only goal is to have fun. I like to pass on what I know. Here, the level is very far from competition at all costs,” defends Chang Wong.

Saturday March 23, the club organized its second tournament of the year by welcoming eight clubs from neighboring towns. Forty-one competitors met over the course of the afternoon, including 40% from Légeriens.

.Training takes place at the Salle de la Rive on Tuesdays, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Thursdays, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
