NBA fines Kelly Oubre and Nick Nurse for conduct towards officials in post-game meltdown

Kelly Oubre and 76ers coach Nick Nurse were fined $50,000 for their conduct toward officials Wednesday in Philadelphia following a 108-107 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The league announced that Nurse was punished for confronting referees aggressively and for inappropriate language.

Oubre was sanctioned for verbal insults and a vulgar gesture towards officials.

The match ended when Kawhi Leonard made a block against Oubre.

Nurse believed Oubre was fouled by Paul George while driving to the basket.

After the match, Nurse had to be restrained by an assistant while approaching the referees while he expressed his anger.

Oubre pointed at each official before walking away.

Referee Kevin Scott acknowledged in a postgame report that George should have been fouled on the play.

Oubre would have had the chance to tie the score or give his team the lead, with less than a second on the clock.

“In real time, we interpreted this play as the defender jumping vertically,” Scott said. Upon review at the end of the game, we observed a slight drift to his left on George’s part, and a foul should have been called. »

Nurse and Oubre offered their apologies after the match.

“It was in the heat of the action of an intense match. We are not perfect. Referees are not perfect, Oubre said. I want to apologize for losing my temper. It’s something I work on every day and try to represent God in the best way possible. And that wasn’t the case. »

Quoted by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Nurse said he “will try to do better” and that he has “always had a good relationship” with this group of referees.

The Sixers have won just once in five games.

They are in eighth place in the East with a 39-34 record.

The 76ers will play in Toronto on Sunday.
