National soccer team: Germany wins friendly match against France

The German national soccer team won 2-0 (2-0) in the friendly against France. Florian Wirtz quickly took the lead with a goal in the first minute of the game. After just seven seconds, the 20-year-old from Bayer Leverkusen made it 1-0 – and thus scored the fastest international goal in German football history.

“You could say that was actually planned,” said Toni Kroos on ZDF after the end of the game. “The standard trainers had enough time, four months, to think of something.” National coach Julian Nagelsmann said: “The kick-off was planned that way and was excellently prepared by standard coach Mads Buttgereit.” Wirtz then did “sensationally” well. “An outstanding shot,” said the national coach.

After the early goal at the start of the game, Kai Havertz made it 2-0 in the 49th minute after a combination between Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. The French’s first chance through Kylian Mbappé in the 25th minute was prevented by Marc-André ter Stegen, who was replacing European Championship goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who was injured again.

The following attempts by the French also failed. After almost an hour, loud whistles could be heard in the stadium, but the French had only resorted to individual actions, such as that of Ousmane Dembélé in the 54th minute.

Nagelsmann received the first yellow card of the game for complaining too loudly about a referee’s decision in the 60th minute. France coach Didier Deschamps seemed fundamentally dissatisfied and replaced four players after an hour.

In the 72nd minute, Nagelsmann sent Chris leadership and Thomas Müller onto the pitch. In the 79th minute, Mittelstädt narrowly missed his debut goal before Deniz Undav came on as the second debutant of the evening (80th). The Stuttgart player, Müller and Niclas Füllkrug, who was also substituted, had further chances to score the third goal in the final phase. At the back, Antonio Rüdiger saved on the line shortly before the end (88th). Waldemar Anton was able to celebrate his DFB debut in the 90th minute.

The next test match will take place next Tuesday in Frankfurt against the Dutch, who had previously defeated Germany’s opening European Championship opponent Scotland 4-0.
