Marc Marquez is no longer the highest paid rider in MotoGP.

A new season has started on the 2024 MotoGP circuits and it is not without impact on the salary scale. Because the Spaniard Marc Marquez, previously the highest paid rider with an income of up to nearly 16 million euros, bonuses included, with the Honda team, changed gear by joining the Ducati team behind the reigning world champion motorcycle.

A “free” transfer for the highest-paid former MotoGP rider

To make this transfer possible, Paolo Ciabatti, the sporting director of the Italian team, confided to the media a few months ago Moto.it : “The economic factor is not what guided this choice”. And even “From what I understood with a paltry salary, that is to say, it practically works with a free transfer”. Marc Marquez relegated to distant spheres, it is another Ducati rider, in the person of Francesco Bagnaia who now dominates the MotoGP 2024 circuit on the pay slip (his salary of €7 million could rise to €10 million with the bonus).

Nothing changes for Quartararo, Zarco benefits from a revaluation

On the French side, nothing has changed for Fabio Quartararo who is entering his last contractual year with Yamaha. As for Johann Zarco, time will tell if he won sportingly by swapping his Ducati for a Honda. Financially, on the other hand, the operation is good since his salary would now be close to €4 million per year.

The salary ranking, to be seen in full on the next page, is based on estimates of the annual fixed shares of each pilot, without each driver’s performance bonuses. To draw it up, we relied on figures from the media, including Gazzetta dello Sport, team statements, and even direct comments from drivers, like the Spaniard Aleix Espargaro interviewed in the past on this subject. .
