Mahmoud Dahoud Leaves Syrian National Team Before Debut Due to Unmet Demands

Just a few weeks ago, VfB player Mahmoud Dahoud decided that he wanted to play for Syria instead of Germany in the future – now he left before his debut.

Mahmoud Dahoud has left the Syrian national team before his possible international debut. The midfielder from Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart left the national team’s quarters in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning, the Syrian Football Association announced on Instagram. They were unable to meet the demands made by Dahoud’s advisors.

Dahoud saw some principles of football not being fulfilled

Dahoud announced his change of association just two weeks ago. The 28-year-old has already appeared twice for the German senior national team, but not in any competitive games. According to the regulations of the world association FIFA, a change is still possible.

“Out of the greatest respect,” Dahoud, who was born in Syria and grew up in Germany, said in an Instagram story that he did not want to comment on the association’s statement on match day. “Top football operates according to certain principles that must be known, respected and fulfilled,” he continued.
