Larry Lloyd, who has died aged 75, made his mark at Liverpool after being signed by Bill Shankly from Bristol Rovers in 1969.

He played every minute of the Reds’ 54 matches in the 1972-73 season, when they won the league and Uefa Cup.

Lloyd scored in the first leg of the Uefa Cup final to help Liverpool win 3-2 on aggregate against Borussia Monchengladbach.

He suffered an injury the following season and was replaced in the starting line-up by Phil Thompson, with new manager Bob Paisley sanctioning his sale to Coventry in 1974.

Lloyd made 214 appearances for Liverpool, including 150 league games, and scored five goals.
