Liberty Media reportedly on the verge of buying the MotoGP Championship

After F1, will Liberty Media also become the owner of another important motorsport championship, MotoGP? According to information from the Financial Times, on Wednesday, the contract for the takeover of Dorna Sports, promoter of MotoGP, World SBK and MotoE, has already been concluded for an amount of 4 billion euros. It could be announced in the coming days, before the next Grand Prix, in Austin on April 14. But the financial daily also announces that the European Commission, responsible for regulating anti-competitive practices, could delay the finalization of the project.

The American media group, which has owned the commercial rights to F1 since 2017 following a transaction estimated at eight billion dollars, is the favorite candidate of the current owners of Dorna Sports, but L’Équipe is able to confirm that QSI (Qatar Sports Investments), the current owner of PSG, is also interested in this takeover.
