Foil Fencer Alexander Kahl Fall Short of Olympic Qualification, German Fencing Team Struggles to Secure Spots for Paris Summer Games

Foil fencer Alexander Kahl and epee fencer Alexandra Ehler did not take advantage of their last chance to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Paris. Kahl (Hanau) was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the last Olympic qualifying tournament in Differdange/Luxemburg, while Ehler from Leverkusen was eliminated in the round of 16. Only the winners in the respective disciplines will get their ticket to the Summer Games (July 26th to August 11th).

On Sunday, Larissa Eifler (Saber/Dormagen) and Marco Brinkmann (Degen/Leverkusen) will fight for the last-minute ticket for the Olympics in Luxembourg.

Matyas Szabo (Saber/Dormagen) and Anne Sauer (Florett/Düsseldorf) are so far the only representatives of the German Fencing Federation (DFeB) who have qualified for Paris. As was the case in Rio in 2016, no German team got their ticket to the Olympics.
