– Without clear objectives, focused on gaining pace
“Actually, it’s fun for me. I never lose that motivation, it’s always there and for some reason I can’t explain it. I don’t have a clear goal at the moment, I just want to play a lot of games. I was almost enjoying the match today, but it wasn’t good enough to beat the top 50 players in the rankings. “I’m pretty happy with how I played today, maybe I didn’t play my best, but I still really want to play a couple more tournaments,” he said. – Do you think you will return to the elite if you manage to gain that competitive pace?
“Actually, yes. Maybe not today, but during training I played pretty good tennis and I was happy with how I played this week training with Ruud and two of the best players there are. I have to say I was playing pretty well, so yeah, I’m really looking forward to getting my tennis back. Maybe it won’t be soon, but I will continue fighting.”
– The physical part or the mental part, which is the most complicated to handle?
“Both things, but for me the physical is the most difficult. When I came back last summer and played six or seven games, my body got injured again. It is difficult for me to maintain my body. As for the schedule, I have to be very smart in the way I play. I think we had an example today, because I think my rival took all the important points and I didn’t. I just need to play well at certain times and play more games to recover my feelings.”
– Your agenda these coming weeks
“I normally play Challengers when I try to compete again, but I hope to play in Houston, Barcelona, Madrid, that is, the clay court tour because I like this surface. I have a good track record playing on clay, so I hope I can play good matches there. I know it will be a difficult terrain, but if I continue to lose in the first round, maybe I will sign up for some Challengers, but not for now.”
