Neuendorf in conversation with ZDF reporter Claudia Neumann (60) about a possible Nagelsmann extension beyond the summer: “From our side it is absolutely desirable, it is very harmonious. And yes, I don’t think there would be anything against that from our side. But yes, we have to talk to each other and I am very confident that we will quickly reach a result.”

Nagelsmann himself has tackled the issue aggressively in the last few days; he wants clarity. He said at the nomination press conference last week: “If I have a contract offer before the European Championships that I am satisfied with and where I say that I feel comfortable there and that is where I see myself, then there is a high probability that I’ll sign it before the European Championships. It is advisable to take care of your professional future. Especially when you have an expiring contract.”
On a fan PK he once again made it clear that a break after the European Championships is not an option: “I can’t decide that, you first need someone to offer you a job. There is currently no offer ready to be signed. A year or half a year break after the European Championships is out of the question for me – as long as an offer comes in.”

Neuendorf continues on ZDF: “We feel very comfortable in this constellation – with Rudi Völler, Julian Nagelsmann and Andreas Rettig. We’re a good team and get along really well.”
Völler is DFB sports director, Rettig is sports director.
Neuendorf continued: “The coach’s wish to create clarity before the European Championship has now been clearly stated. I have already said that we will not ignore this wish.”
Neumann asks: “Do you see any pressure to act because a big German club (Bayern is also looking for a new coach; editor’s note) may already be digging in?”
Neuendorf: “No, this is a completely normal process. I think we will now seek discussions as soon as possible after the two international matches.”
