Due to an interruption in the rain, Jannik Sinner had to be patient in Miami for a long time, but as soon as he was released on Saturday evening, he whirled over his opponent. In doing so, he kept his clean slate in a duel with Italian opponents.

For the twelfth time, Jannik Sinner faced an opponent from Italy on the ATP tour on Saturday, and for the twelfth time he left the court as the winner. He defeated Andrea Vavassori 6:3, 6:4 and moved into the third round of the Masters 1000 tournament in Miami.

The duel between the two Azzurri was actually scheduled for Friday at 6:30 p.m. (CET), but it ended a good 28 hours later. Due to the weather, they were only able to get started late on Friday evening, but had to leave the field again after just under half an hour when the score was 3:2 (40:40) for Sinner because it started raining again. The game only continued on Saturday shortly before 10 p.m. – and then finally ended in quick succession.

Because the third in the world rankings completed his mandatory task without flares, without tactics and without even having to push himself to the limit of his performance. He immediately started with a break and took the first set after just under a quarter of an hour. The second round initially started evenly before the 22-year-old South Tyrolean met his counterpart, the world number 148. from Turin, with the score at 2:2, took the service again and thus set the course for victory.

Sinner always remained fully focused throughout the 79 minutes of play in the impressive but half-empty Hard Rock Stadium on the outskirts of Miami. His high-speed, high-angle punches caused obvious trouble for Vavassori from start to finish.

On Sunday against Griekspoor

In the end, for Sinner this was nothing more than a first warm-up after he had enjoyed a bye in round one. A tougher test awaits him on Sunday when he meets Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (ATP 26), who defeated surprise Alex Michelsen (ATP 739) in a three-set duel. Sinner and Griekspoor have faced each other three times so far, and the young man from Sexten won three times.
