Impressive Start for KSC ASAHI Judo Teams in 1st Bundesliga Season

The KSC ASAHI judo teams had a successful start to the 1st Judo Bundesliga. The women dominated JG Sachsenwald with an impressive 13-1 win, thanks to outstanding performances from fighters like Alina Völke and Nicole Stakhov. The men’s team played an exciting duel against SUA Witten, which ended with a narrow victory. Despite some challenges, including the controversial disqualification of Anton Savytskiy, the men showed fighting spirit and secured their first win of the season with a decisive victory in the final duel by Elija Ruben Märkt. Both teams impressively demonstrated their ambitions for the season and the hope of participating in the playoffs for the German championship in autumn 2024.

The KSC ASAHI announced:

The start of the 1st Judo Bundesliga was tailor-made for both of our teams. Our women literally swept last year’s group runners-up JG Sachsenwald off the mat with 13:1.

Spremberg’s own Alina Völke fought the first fight and after just under 30 seconds it was already 1-0. Nicole Stakhov from Neu-Spremberg completed her task almost as quickly and increased the score to 2-0. This was followed by points from Franka Sophie Matthes, Charlotte von Leupold, Emma Hammer, Sabine Bonitz and Helen Schwenderling. In the rush it was 7-0 going into the half-time break. “You almost felt sorry for the Hamburg girls because of the superiority of the Spremberg team.” said President Dirk Meyer

Coach Madlen Oesterreich had to change at least three fighters at halftime, but was able to make full use of the team and, given the reassuring lead, made five changes. As in the first half of the season, Alina Völke and Nicole Stahkov won the first two points early with Ippon.

After a defeat, the eagerly awaited debut of the 15-year-old Anni Lehnigk followed. After a real firework of attacks from the Spremberg high school student, it was finally a wonderful combination from Lehnigk that caused the Spremberg cauldron to shake. This was followed by points 11, 12 and 13 by Nathalie Ghandour, Michelle Goschin and Lena Sophie Grulich. A successful start and two important points in the fight for group victory and renewed participation in the play-offs for the German championship in autumn 2024.

After a short break, our men started. As in the previous year, our men were able to start the new season against the multiple medal winner SUA Witten. “Not the best way to start the season.” said coach Mike Göpfert Last year, after being behind at halftime, our boys narrowly prevailed 6:8 in Witten and thus laid the foundation for moving into the final round. In the duel of the “heavy boys”, Sven Heinle, who moved from Esslingen to Spremberg, was left behind despite a strong fight and lost his debut in front of the home crowd. The two lightweights Maximilian Standke and Artem Lesiuk got rid of their mandatory tasks and ended their duels early with Ippon. After another defeat, it was Vladimir Stark up to 81 kg who brought our team forward again. With his irresistible attack judo, he made Wittener Popp despair and caught him with a wonderful shoulder throw shortly before the end, fully on Ippon. The Ukrainian Anton Savytskiy was supposed to ensure a kind of preliminary decision in the next fight and was considered a safe bet in Spremberg circles. In the end, he was even disqualified while in the lead, causing great displeasure on the Spremberger side. “The judges didn’t have their best moment! A rating was withdrawn and not given, a rating was given too low, then the arrests for Anton were announced far too late and in the end the better fighter was disqualified. After viewing the video images, there is no disqualification and Anton has to leave the mat early as the winner.” said Meyer After that, Dennis Rietz also lost against the Belgian Foubert and our boys were behind 3:4 like last year. There were long faces and many question marks as Anton Savytskiy was now also banned from the second round due to his disqualification. The half-time meeting was therefore comparatively long. In the end, coach Mike Göpfert put everything on victory and even risked defeat with his line-up. Sven Heinle got the first point and thus the equalizer in the rematch against J. Schreiber. In the Golden Score, the heavyweight achieved the much celebrated equalizer. Standke and Lesiuk took points number 5 and 6 as confidently as in the first half of the season. After that, captain Oleg Ilts should at least secure the draw. A little over-motivated, our captain lost completely unexpectedly and the team from the Ruhr area smelled the morning air again. Vladimir Stark secured the draw that was a relief for everyone. “The name said it all today. Vladi was irresistible and was determined to contribute to winning the points. For me he was one of the strongest today, maybe even the strongest.” said coach Mike Göpfert In the last duel of the day, both teams sent their 81kg man up to the 90kg limit and this script couldn’t have been written better. Both athletes gave each other nothing and had half a point each before extra time went into overtime. The tension in the hall was almost unbearable, but the 18-year-old Elija Ruben Märkt was unimpressed and became the match winner with a wonderful shoulder throw. The team and the almost sold-out hall celebrated the youngster and the first win of the new season. “Today wasn’t for the faint of heart, but it was even better for us and our fans,” said Meyer after the successful start to the 1st Bundesliga.
