If Abramovich was still the owner of Chelsea, Pochettino would have been fired

Bola.net – Mauricio Pochettino has struggled to get consistent results since becoming Chelsea manager in the summer. John Obi Mikel believes that Pochettino would have been fired if Roman Abramovich was still the owner of the Blues.

Pochettino was recruited by Chelsea at the start of the 2023/2024 season. Even though he has bought a lot of players, Pochettino has not been able to improve the Blues’ performance.

Chelsea is still stuck in the middle of the Premier League standings. Cole Palmer and colleagues are ranked 11th with a collection of 35 points.

Chelsea also lost in the 2023/2024 Carabao Cup final. The Blues were defeated by Liverpool with a narrow score of 0-1.

Even though Chelsea often achieve bad results, Pochettino is still retained by current owner Todd Boehly. However, Mikel believes that Pochettino’s fate would have been different if Abramovich was still at the club.

“Some of the criticism is exaggerated, but we experienced the same thing when we played for Chelsea when we didn’t win, received criticism and watched the manager lose his job. This is Chelsea. You have to win. You have to win games and trophies,” Mikel told Standard.

“Yes, we have given them time, but they have time to start to gel, unite and play much better. I defend the players and the coach. They must be given time, but how much time? This is Chelsea FC If this is the era [Roman] Abramovich, he’s going to lose his job.”

Give Poch Time

Mikel himself hopes that Pochettino will still be given time to change the fate of his former team. However, he left all decisions to the owner.

“But I hope the new owner will give Poch time. Let’s see where we finish at the end of the season,” continued Mikel.

“The final will give him some breathing space, but now we need a series of wins to see where we ultimately finish. Then it’s up to the owner to make a decision.”
