Family of Badminton Stars: Angela’s Olympic Debut Continues Legacy

Meanwhile, Angela will be making her Olympic debut but won’t be the first from her family to compete at the Games.

Angela’s mother He Tian Tang (Rosie) won the women’s doubles bronze medal for Australia at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, four years after winning an Olympic bronze medal for the People’s Republic of China at the Atlanta 1996 Games. Angela’s dad Yu Qi is a former coach of the Australian national team.

The 26-year-old Tiffany will represent Australia in the women’s singles. She won the gold medal at the Oceania Championships in February and is 94th in the singles world rankings. Like Angela, Tiffany will also make her Olympic debut at Paris.

Australian badminton players have featured in every Summer Games edition since the sport made its Olympic debut at Barcelona 1992.

However, Australia are yet to win an Olympic medal in badminton.
