In a conversation with Motorsport-Total.com Helmut Marko refers the story from New Zealand to the realm of fables. He emphasizes that there is no ultimatum for Ricciardo and suspects that the speculation may have been caused by the fact that Ricciardo has to skip the first free practice of the Japanese GP. Japanese driver Ayunu Iwasa will drive his car during the first training session of his home GP. Racing Bulls does this so that they have at least one session in which two Japanese will be in action, because the Grand Prix is held at the home base of motorcycle manufacturer Honda. The fact that Iwasa would drive had reportedly been planned for some time and therefore has nothing to do with the performance of Daniel Ricciardo.
