Nike swoosh instead of Adidas’ three stripes – the change of supplier at the DFB ends an era and causes emotions to run high. There is hardly any support for the step in a recent survey.

The majority of Germans reject the DFB’s move from Adidas to Nike. This is the result of a representative Forsa survey commissioned by RTL on Friday.

According to this, 52 percent of those surveyed find the step “not so good” and seven percent “good”. 40 percent “do not care” about the matter. The rejection among those interested in football is even greater. Here, 76 percent think the change of supplier is “not so good”.

Only a minority of 36 percent of those surveyed consider the DFB’s decision to choose the highest bidder company to be “understandable”. However, 58 percent say: In this case, the DFB should have chosen a German company as the supplier.

Adidas and the DFB – an era is coming to an end

When it comes to the fundamental question of whether German companies can be required to give preference to other German companies when investing or purchasing, even in the event of higher costs, respondents are divided. 48 percent say “yes”, 32 percent say “no”, nine percent answer “don’t know”.

The background: The German Football Association announced on Thursday that it would rely on the US company Nike as a supplier from 2027 and thus end the decades-long partnership with the traditional company Adidas from Herzogenaurach. It was said that financial reasons were the main reason for the decision. Since then, the change of supplier has been widely discussed in sports, politics and society.

Notes on the methodology: For the survey, the opinion research institute Forsa surveyed a total of 1,002 people in Germany on March 22, 2024. The error tolerance is +/- three percentage points. The survey is representative.
