Chun Hsin Tseng won a Szekesfehervar

Older sports fans will remember: In 2018, Chun-Hsin Tseng won the junior titles at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. After that, it was probably thought that the Taiwanese would soon make it onto the ATP tour. Mats Merkel supported Tseng as an advisor at the time. And also made sure that the junior could train with the big boys. Dominic Thiem, for example, always enjoyed hitting balls with Tseng, who was characterized by his incredible consistency in his shots.

This week Thiem and Tseng may have seen each other again in person in Szekesfehervar. From a sporting point of view, it wasn’t enough for the meeting; Thiem had to admit defeat against Daniel Michalski in the first round. Tseng, on the other hand, played his way through the entire table – and didn’t have to do much on Sunday to win the title in Hungary. Because opponent Tituan Droguet had to give up for Tseng when the score was 4:1.

Getting into the adult circus actually didn’t work out badly for Chun-Hsin Tseng. In August 2022 he was already in position 88 in the world and ended the year in position 115. The following season didn’t go as planned at all. Tseng was able to win a single game on the ATP tour: in round one in Shanghai against Alexander Shevchenko.

As a result, Tseng found himself outside the top 300 of the ATP charts. Before the tournament in Szekesfehervar he was ranked 328th, with the title win the 22-year-old climbed 83rd position to now number 245.
