Freiburg Coach Christian Streich’s Decision Looms: Will He Stay or Go?

Everyone is waiting for Freiburg coach Christian Streich’s decision. The 58-year-old wants to announce on Monday whether he will continue or quit in the summer. Before and after the game against Leverkusen (2:3) he blocked all questions about it.

Someone who might already know is Christian Günter (31). The Freiburg captain spoke on the DAZN microphone after the game and caused a stir with a slip of the tongue.

Günter had to correct himself. “It was, or is, a pleasure to train under him,” he said.

Is he babbling the end of the prank here? Possible!

Günter about Streich: “Of course we hope that he will continue”

Because the decision has been coming for so long, there are many indications that Streich is calling it quits. The club has already missed several good times to announce a positive cancellation decision.

Freiburg captain Günter also explained: “Everyone knows that we enjoy working with him. Everyone knows that he is an outstanding coach and of course we hope that he will continue.”

And further: “It is respectful that none of us comment and it is absolutely their decision.”

Streich took over Freiburg in January 2012, in 18th place, and led them to several European Cup appearances and to the 2022 DFB Cup final.

On Monday it will be clear whether it was just an unfortunate slip of the tongue on Günter’s part or whether Streich really works in the summer.
