France Qualifies for World Table Tennis Championships Final, Led by Felix Lebrun

The tricolors beat Taiwan, called Chinese Taipei in international competitions (3-1), in the semi-final of the World Team Championships in Busan (South Korea), this Saturday.

The French men’s team qualified for the final of the World Table Tennis Championships, a first since 1997, thanks in particular to its young prodigy Félix Lebrun, by winning 3 to 1 in the half against Taiwan, Saturday in Busan (South Korea).

Less than six months before the Paris Olympics, the Blues, made up of brothers Félix and Alexis Lebrun and Simon Gauzy, will try to do better than the team led 27 years ago by Jean-Philippe Gatien, in the final on Sunday against China, ten-time title holder. The youngest Lebrun, Félix (17), gave France the first point. After the defeat of his older brother Alexis and the second success brought by Simon Gauzy, the 6th player in the world scored the decisive point against Yun-Ju Lin (N.8).

The Blues will be the underdog in the final against China, which has the top five players in the world and beat South Korea, host of the competition, in the semi-final 3 to 2. Besides the band at “ Philou» Gatien in 1997, France had already won silver at the Worlds in 1948. Among the ladies, the Blue won the bronze medal in Busan, the first in 33 years, after their defeat on Friday in the semi-final against the China (3-0).
