Firing of Leicester Women’s Coach Willie Kirk Highlights Code of Conduct in Women’s Football

Willie Kirk, the coach of the Leicester women’s team, was fired by his club for having an extra-professional relationship with one of the players.

As expected since his suspension at the beginning of March, Willie Kirk was dismissed from his duties on Thursday by Leicester. The Scottish women’s team coach pays a high price for his relationship with one of his players. A situation which is certainly not reprehensible in view of the law but contrary to the code of conduct put in place by the Foxes.

A code of conduct established in 2020

“Established and implemented before the start of the current season, the code is part of the club’s ongoing commitment to professionalizing women’s football since the resumption of LCFC Women in 2020, promoting a performance-driven culture among the players, coaches and technical staff”, the club further clarified.

Willie Kirk arrived at Leicester in the summer of 2022 after playing for Everton and Manchester United. Appointed director of football, he quickly sat on the team bench where he should be replaced until the end of the season by Jennifer Foster.
