Ferrari closer to Red Bull?

The first day of free practice for the 2024 Australian Grand Prix it provided some certainly interesting and partially unexpected indications, especially regarding the battle at the top between Red Bull and Ferrari. In fact, Friday in Melbourne turned out to be favorable to the Scuderia di Maranellowho dictated the law in FP2 both in the qualifying simulation and (with less margin) on the race pace with Charles Leclerc.

The native of the Principality, also thanks to his great qualities on the flying lap, dominated the scene on the Albert Park street circuit giving almost 4 tenths of a second to a certain Max Verstappen and over half a second to all the Red’s other opponents. Good start to the weekend also for Carlos Sainz, third, 430 thousandths behind his teammate despite not being in optimal physical shape after the appendicitis operation carried out in Jeddah.

Ferrari, the second force in the field in the first two rounds of the season, was in fact one of the few teams to have brought some innovations (albeit minimal) to the single-seater in Australia. In fact, on the SF-24 an element was introduced positioned in the rear wing area, with the aim of cleaning the flow exiting the engine hood and giving greater efficiency to the machine.

We will only understand more in qualifying and in the race, when there will no longer be any hiding and everyone will be forced to unleash the full potential of the cars, but the Emilian company’s starting base certainly seems very solid in Melbourne. The impression is that Leclerc can really challenge for pole position tomorrow, while the Grand Prix will be a completely different story in which Verstappen remains the main favourite.
