Regensburg Legionnaires Set to Take On Hünstetten Storm in Away Doubleheader

After four home games in a row, the Guggenberg Legionnaires are heading away this weekend. On the fifth matchday in the 1st Baseball Bundesliga South, the Regensburg team will meet Hünstetten Storm. The games in the newcomer from the previous season will be played as doubleheaders over two seven innings. The double pack game starts on Sunday at 12 p.m.

The second encounter in the Taunus district will take place immediately afterwards. Coach Martin Helmig’s team travels to Hesse as league leaders.

There was more than one opponent to defeat in the end. Both the fright from Stuttgart and the extremely challenging weather conditions could not affect the current leader of the southern relay. With five victories in a row under their belt, the legionnaires’ entourage begins their away trip. The Upper Palatinate team has been undefeated since the opening defeat in Heidenheim. And it should stay that way with the current bottom of the table.

Hünstetten got off to a mixed start in the second first division season in the club’s history. At the home opener, the Hessians achieved a narrow 4-3 win against the Stuttgart Reds. Two weeks ago there were two bitter blows (1:11, 5:15) at the Munich Hair Disciples. However, the Schwabelweiser learned in the preseason that the Storm should not be underestimated. Two of the four games went into overtime – with the better ending for the Legionnaires. Nevertheless, the outsider caused a defeat to the favorite last year. The team has only changed in a few positions. Nicholas Pupo replaced Lionel Chattelle in the coaching bench before the start of the season.

There were changes in the Regensburg squad during the week. The Venezuelan throwing duo Abraham da Silva and Geremi Jimenez will no longer play for Regensburg. The South Americans with Portuguese passports were only signed in the spring, but were unable to meet the expectations placed on them. “There was a lack of consistency,” explains Coach Helmig. The five-time Legionnaires’ champion coach had already announced in the MZ interview at the home opener that there could still be changes “if someone doesn’t perform.” The Upper Palatinate team may now step up their game again in the key position of thrower.
