Far-Right Activists Face Sentencing for Disrupting Migrant Conference in Saint-Brévin

The Saint-Nazaire prosecutor requested a six-month suspended prison sentence, accompanied by a three-year ban on approaching Saint-Brévin, as well as the obligation to follow a citizenship course for six activists. ‘far right. The latter, aged 21 to 29, are accused of trying to disrupt a conference on the reception of migrants in the city.

This conference took place under high tension, after the fire in the house of Mayor Yannick Morez, in March 2023, and several clashes with the far-right in the town. The demonstrations had also been banned by the prefecture, in the commune, on the sidelines of this conference.

Decision in May

In the trunk of their car, the gendarmerie found a baseball bat, a tear gas canister, a box cutter, balaclavas, mouth guards, neck gaiters and several stickers with nationalist symbols including one with the image of Adolf Hitler. The accused replied that they were going from Rennes to La Rochelle and had gone to Saint-Brévin to demonstrate peacefully.

The Defense had pleaded for the nullity of the procedure and the acquittal, considering that no violence had been committed. The court’s final decision is expected on May 7.
