Fabio Quartararo, 7th in the Portuguese Grand Prix: “We are taking small steps forward, but very slowly”

Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha – 7th), speaking to Canal+: “It was a complicated race. Beyond the result, which is rather positive with this 7th place, it is the pace which was very average. I thought I would finish closer to the winner, we almost lost a second per lap (20″ in 25 laps). We will have to find a solution. We are on the right path, but as a driver, I want things to go better quickly, as quickly as possible. We take small steps forward, but very slowly… Even for the sprint race, my choice was on the medium tire, but the mistake we made was to do not put the hard on the front yesterday (Saturday). I think the potential is not at the top, but we are not as far as we might think. But we must solve the problem of degradation tires, to try to fight higher. I’m not going to leave many Grands Prix before saying it’s not going well.”

Johann Zarco (LCR Honda – 15th), speaking to Canal+: “I missed the start, the bike jumped a lot. Then, I managed to squeeze through to regain a few places, but it was too difficult to go any faster. It was complicated to steer the bike, it started to vibrate like during the sprint in Qatar. I tried to hang on to the group in front to fight for a few points, but the vibration was getting worse and worse, especially in the last corner. The crashes at the end of the race allowed me to score a point, but the conditions really deteriorated, and I suffered. We changed something on the bike before the race, it may have been worse rather than better, but it was worth a try, we have nothing to lose. The Japanese work a lot, they are not rewarded with results. I don’t know if it will be better in Austin but it is clear that it can during the year. You have to resist, try to understand. »
