Euro U.21: Nunziata praises Italy ‘we are a great group’ – Football

First Latvia, then Turkey or “two matches in five fundamental days” to win the Under 21 European Championships in 2025. Carmine Nunziata’s Italy begins the final rush from tomorrow in Cesena to win a place in the final phase of the continental category tournament : We start from the ‘Dino Manuzzi’ stadium against Latvians of the same age and then continue on Tuesday 26th at the ‘Paolo Mazza’ in Ferrara on a tour of Emilia-Romagna which will also bring the senior national team to face Turkey in a friendly in June.

Nunziata will not have Edoardo Bove available – who left the retreat on Monday due to plantar fasciitis – and the other Roma player Tommaso Baldanzi, who returned to the capital due to an adductor problem. Cristian Volpato, however, has not trained in recent days due to a flu attack. Despite the absences, however, the Azzurri coach Nunziata has no shortage of options, just as the double home match represents a double opportunity to move up in the standings.

“We are a great group, the results depend only on us. We must try to get the maximum to direct the ranking – the words of Nunziata – Among other things, in this window our direct opponents will play one match and not two, for this reason we must try to offer two great performances to be able to turn them into two positive results.”
The path of the Under 21 national team in qualifying for the 2025 European Championship starts again from a return round that will lead Nunziata’s team – leading Group A with 11 points – to play four out of five matches at home, to guarantee a ticket for the Slovakia.

“When you find yourself after such a long time (last meeting in November, ed.), the fundamental thing is to give continuity to the work we have left, restoring mentality and intensity, becoming a team again. We know that the national teams are like that, we must try to do our work in a short time. I am of the opinion that we are a strong team and the results in most cases depend on us: I will ask us to play to the best of our ability to win the match.”

In recent days the debate, proposed by Spalletti, on the management of the free time of retired players has become topical again: “An athlete must play matches, for this reason he must be well physically – Nunziata’s point of view – If you want to play high-level football, you have to train but the recovery phase is also important. Nobody forbids video games, but when you have to rest you have to rest.”
