Ederson Suffers Injury in Liverpool vs Manchester City Clash: Out for Up to Four Weeks

The top Premier League game between Liverpool FC and Manchester City (match report >>>) did not end well for keeper Ederson.

Shortly after the break, the “Skyblues” goalkeeper collided with Darwin Nunez and was awarded a penalty. Reds midfielder Mac Allister converted this to equalize 1-1. In the collision with Nunez, Ederson sustained a thigh injury and had to be replaced by Stefan Ortega.

The former Bielefeld goalkeeper will probably also be between the posts for the “Citizens” in the next few weeks. As “Sky” and “The Athletic” report, among others, Ederson will be out for up to four weeks due to the thigh injury. Ortega has already made three appearances in the Premier League this season and kept goal in two games in the UEFA Champions League.

Ortega will be called upon in the FA Cup quarter-finals against Newcastle (March 16) and in the Premier League top game against Arsenal FC (March 31).

Debut for neo-team keeper Jardim?

Ederson will also miss Brazil’s international friendly matches against England (March 23) and Spain (March 26). Leo Jardim was called up to the national team for the first time by Vasco da Gama as Ederson’s replacement. Since Liverpool’s Alisson is currently suffering from a thigh injury, Jardim could make his first appearance promptly.

Ederson’s national team colleague Gabriel Martinelli from the “Gunners” is also currently out due to injury (all information >>>).
