DeMar DeRozan and Dillon Brooks Ejected After Fight: Rockets Win 7th Straight

DeMar DeRozan and Dillon Brooks were the protagonists of the last revolutionary moment of the night. Both players got into a small fight after the Bulls player committed a hard foul on Jalen Green, starting a fight that ended with both players being sent off.

Contrary to what might be expected given the fame that precedes each one, it was not Brooks who started the incident, since what the Canadian did was come out in defense of his partner. And, with 6 minutes left in the third quarter, DeRozan practically tackled Green while defending a block, knocking him down and leaving him on the ground with obvious gestures of pain. Dillon then proceeded to reprimand the forward for his action and the two ended up facing each other, having to be separated by other players and assistants from both teams, some of whom ended up falling to the ground.

After the action, both players were sent off, although for different reasons. The referees reviewed DeRozan’s foul and determined that it was an action sufficiently excessive to be flagged as a Type 2 flagrant foul, while Brooks received a technical and was ejected for escalating the situation.

“I wish he hadn’t been sent off, but I do like that he came out to defend his teammate,” commented Ime Udoka, who supported her player. “He simply approached and didn’t say anything out of the ordinary, but it seems that the rules say that anyone who instigates the brawl must be expelled despite DeRozan’s aggression.”

Billy Donovan, for his part, also defended his man: “I don’t think DeMar intended to commit a type 2 flagrant. It was clearly a foul and it was clearly a flagrant, but I doubt that was his intention. In fact I was surprised that he was identified as type 2 and that he was expelled.

Seventh in a row for Houston

This action did not change much the outcome of the match, which was dominated by the Rockets almost from start to finish and ended up falling to the Texans by 127-117, giving them their seventh consecutive victory. Chicago, which was down 19 in the first half, managed to close the gap and hold on to the game again, but was never able to complete the comeback and ended up seeing the victory slip through its fingers again.

Jalen Green was the best of the locals with 26 points, while Dillon Brooks was second with 23 despite being able to play only 25 minutes before being sent off. DeRozan, for his part, reached 16, ceding the role of leader of the Bulls to Ayo Dosunmu who, with 35 points, once again showed signs of his offensive growth.
