The Continental Association for North and Central America and the Caribbean (Concacaf) said it condemned the discriminatory chants. Stadium security personnel identified a significant number of fans involved and removed them from the arena.

Concacaf did not initially announce any disciplinary action after the game was interrupted, but said: “It is extremely disappointing that this matter continues to be an issue in some games, especially in the context of the enormous opportunity to end the sport in two years to continue to grow in our region,” said the association. The USA, Mexico and Canada will host the World Cup in 2026.

In terms of sport, the final was decided by two former Bundesliga professionals. Former RB Leipzig player Tyler Adams (45th minute) and Dortmund player Giovanni Reyna (63rd), who is on loan at Nottingham Forest, scored the goals for the hosts. After Reyna’s goal, celebrating US players were hit by objects thrown onto the field by fans. “We want a great atmosphere, but we don’t want things thrown at us. That’s dangerous, someone could get hurt,” said US coach Gregg Berhalter.
