CE2 Students at Louise-Michel Elementary School in Bas-en-Basset Get a Taste of Judo

CE2 students from Laurence Laval and Audrey Baux’s classes at Louise-Michel elementary school in Bas-en-Basset learn about judo.

François Fernandez, judo teacher, paid by the Sou des écoles, takes part in 7 sessions. Warm-ups like progressive and fun exercises require attention from each student but also mobility, speed, strength and reflexes. Even if the goal is to unbalance his partner (attack and defend himself), the young judoka must also do it while respecting instructions, rules and without making dangerous movements. Indeed, modesty, self-control, courage, friendship, respect, politeness, and sincerity are the values promoted by this sport.

With a well-worn kimono, the teacher does not hesitate to give demonstrations in front of motivated and attentive students. Thus, with the back fall mastered, they learned “O uchi gari” (the big inside mowing) and along the way, a little Japanese!

The students were able to have their first fight during the second session. By the end of the school year, CP-CE1 students will play football, while CM students will play basketball and rugby.
