Carolina Marín continues her streak until the final of the Swiss Open

MADRID, 23 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín defeated the Japanese Tomoka Miyazaki (21-18, 21-12) this Saturday to reach the final of the Swiss Open, a Super 300 category tournament of the BWF World Tour.

The Huelva native saved an uncomfortable match, against an opponent she had never faced, with two set starts of unforced errors. Marín recovered to reach his second consecutive final, after winning the prestigious All England last Sunday.

The three-time world champion and six-time European champion continued the great form she showed in Birmingham with a new victory in Basel. Marín did not start with the best version of himself but, midway through the first set, he turned the script around with good strategy and quality to take the Japanese out of the match (21-18).

The Olympic champion’s repertoire in Rio de Janeiro 2016 remained one step ahead of Miyazaki, despite the Asian woman’s attempted reaction. The first points were again from the Japanese, but Marín was much more reliable, with fewer errors and gaining confidence through winning shots (16-11).

The Spaniard varied her game, adapted to what the duel required and found a free way in her attacks, to walk solidly towards her second consecutive final on the World Tour. At 30 years old and despite two serious knee injuries, Marín continues to fuel her ambition for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In the Swiss final, she will face the Indonesian Gregoria Mariska Tunjung this Sunday.

“Very happy with how I felt in the game, especially with the focus of attention I had placed on things I wanted to improve. The smile came back many times, despite the mistakes because it was in the game plan and tomorrow a new final with great enthusiasm,” said Marín after his victory.
