Roger Federer Opens Up About His Children’s Awareness of His Tennis Career in Interview with GQ

Interviewed at length by the magazine GQRoger Federer was not stingy with declarations and other succulent anecdotes.

Particularly questioned about the awareness of his children (two 15-year-old twins and two 10-year-old twins) in relation to his career as a tennis player and its impact on the sport, the Swiss declared that he was now impossible to minimize anything.

“My children understand much more today than before what I accomplished during my career. When they were younger, especially the girls, I didn’t talk to them about my rankings or my successes, even when I was number one. They asked me: ‘Is Stan (Wawrinka) good?’ I was like, ‘He’s obviously amazing. He’s a legendary player and he’s fantastic.’ ‘And Rafa (Nadal)?’ I replied: ‘Yes, he too, he’s really good.’ And then finally: ‘And you?’. ‘Yes, I am fine.’ I was really downplaying things. But now I can’t do it anymore because their friends come and say, ‘Oh, your dad did this or that, did you know that?’ And sometimes they ask me too. And now I can be more open and honest about my accomplishments or experiences. And I use it more as a story or an experience to share with them. »
