Sporting pink nail polish, a pink phone and a pink wallet, the top rated college quarterback supported his school as the No. 1 ranked Trojans look to make a run to a championship.

Williams is already a household name in college sports but the NFL is altogether different animal and fans of the league aren’t quite as accustomed to Gen Z’s gender-blind style that lean more toward more Harry Styles than Howie Long.

Williams, who is expected to go first overall to the Chicago Bears in April, isn’t the first athlete to show off his flamboyant side, but of course social media took notice. Comments on the future QB1’s look ranged from support to memes to chauvinistic.

Former NFL quarterback and second overall pick Robert Griffin III suggested people should just let the young man be himself: “Let Caleb Williams be Caleb Williams. Ain’t nothing wrong with him wearing pink fingernail polish and having a pink phone. Quite frankly, if he goes to Chicago then Bears’ fans should be rocking whatever he is. Stop the hate and accept him for who he is.”

Williams fired back at a Barstool Sports employee who posted his thoughts on Williams’ look on X: “Pink phone is crazy ngl (not gonna lie).”

Williams responded with a critique of his own: “Your pfp (profile picture) is crazy ngl.”

NFL media personality and noted Bears fan Adam Rank drew some comparisons between Williams and a past Chicago gridiron legend: “Many parents were outraged by Jim McMahon’s antics in the 1980’s, saying it was harming their children. Those kids are now adults, upset because Caleb Williams has a Hello Kitty phone. And they’ve taken to Bears Twitter to complain about it.”

One thing is for certain is that if Williams becomes the first successful Bears star quarterback in 40 years, his nail polish will be the last thing fans in Chicago will care about.
