Bundesliga: WAC and Altach share the points

The star puts the Altach team ahead if they have a tie on points, which could give them an important advantage over bottom team Lustenau (five points) and WSG Tirol (seven) in the relegation battle. Augustine Boakye had put WAC coach Manfred Schmid’s team in the lead (9th), Vesel Demaku scored shortly afterwards for the guests (15th). The Rheindörflers will therefore remain without a competitive win in 2024.

While Altach coach Joachim Standfest sent the guests onto the field with the same starting eleven as against LASK a week ago (0-0), Schmid brought in four new ones for the hosts compared to the 4-0 defeat at Sturm Graz. Apparently the biggest surprise was the rotation in the goalkeeper position, with Lukas Gütlbauer being allowed to play instead of regular goalkeeper Hendrick Bonmann. The 23-year-old has only played in the cup so far and can now work on changing the guard in the Lavanttal in the next league games.

WAC and Altach share the points

The basic round of the Admiral Bundesliga came to an end with a division of points for WAC and SCR Altach. The two teams drew 1-1 on Sunday in the Wolfsberg Lavanttal Arena.

Effective start on both sides

The game started with effectiveness on both sides. Adis Jasic fed Boakye, who scored a left-footed solo shot on the edge of the penalty area to take the lead and score his sixth goal of the season. But the hosts’ joy didn’t last long.

After a mistake in the WAC defense, the ball landed at Demaku, who sank it to equalize. That was the end of the glory. Boakye (23rd) and SCR striker Atdhe Nuhiu (26th) missed a good opportunity for both teams before the break.

Second half without excitement

The second half went without much excitement, but the Altach team were the more active and dangerous team. Nuhiu missed the best opportunity to take the lead when he headed over the WAC goal from three meters after a corner. Gustavo Santos also missed the goal just three minutes after coming on as a substitute (75′), while Jan Jurcec, who was also substituted, was denied by Gütlbauer (83′).

The Vorarlbergers are still waiting for their second away win this season, which can now only come in the lower play-offs at the earliest. Mike-Steven Bähre, who received his ninth yellow card against WAC, will miss the start of the qualifying group.

Voices about the game:

Manfred Schmid (WAC coach): “We didn’t play well for a long time. We were very error-prone and that hindered us from playing a better game. But we still got into the game well, took a 1-0 lead and then couldn’t get our own ball away at our own 16. Until then, Altach had not had a chance to score. It was the expected difficult game for us. In the second half, Altach felt closer to the opening goal.”

Joachim Standfest (Altach coach): “We had good chances that we didn’t take advantage of. We dominated the game, but the WAC were still dangerous through switching actions. That’s how we got the first goal. It’s disappointing that we only scored one point. We would have had a chance to win the game.”
