ATP announces major changes to 2025 tennis season calendar

The Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) announced the provisional calendar for the 2025 season, in which it will apply a radical change that includes the disappearance of some tournaments, including the Argentine tournament in Córdoba, which loses its license to Mallorca.

The tournament in the Spanish city will be held in the week before Wimbledon as a preparatory event for the third Grand Slam of the year.

With the loss of the license on Argentine soil, the one who spoke out on social networks was the tennis player Diego “Peque” Schwartzman: “The decision of @atptour to bring an ATP250 to Argentina and the entire region is confirmed… from 4 tournaments to only 3… taking tournaments and possibilities from all of South America, I don’t see it being a great decision. A shame.”

The ATP highlighted that with the new format, next year the events will be “improved” and there will be a total of 60 tournaments spread across 29 countries.

“Next season will feature further enhancements to the ATP Tour product across a simplified calendar. “This is central to everything we have built with OneVision, whose aspiration is to create the best possible experience for fans,” said ATP President Andrea Gaudenzi.

As soon as the structural changes were officially confirmed, the ATP 250 in Estoril announced that they will not be part of the provisional 2025 calendar, although the intention of the event is to fit in some way into the upcoming versions.

The main changes will occur in the Masters 1000 in Canada and Cincinnati, since they will have an extension: the contest held in the summer on the American hard court tour will be 12 days long, joining the other five Masters 1000 that are taking place. dispute with this elongated format.

Along with those in Rome, Madrid and Shanghai, these events will now have more importance in the calendar as they have a longer duration and will now have 96 players in its main draws.

The increases will also occur in the ATP 500 tournaments, since from next season there will be 16, since the Dallas, Qatar and Munich tournaments were promoted in category.
