Anderlecht Chasing History: Can They Achieve Seven Wins in a Row?

Given the light program for this end of the classic phase of the championship – the match at RWDM and at home against Kortrijk should not pose a problem – Anderlecht must achieve a series of seven wins out of seven.

You have to go back to the calendar year 2014 to find a comparable series. Spanning the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons, Sporting won eight games in a row, starting with the 2-1 against Standard in the playoffs. After winning the title following a breathtaking final sprint, Anderlecht lost two points to Westerlo (2-2) on the fourth day of the following season.

The architect of this series was… Besnik Hasi, the man who is achieving a 20 out of 24 with Mechelen at the moment. Even René Weiler had not won more than five times in a row in 2017.

Riemer also chases Jacobs’ 24-match unbeaten streak

Under John van den Brom, Anderlecht won 11 times in a row in the same season, in 2012-2013. Standard spoiled the party by coming to get a point at Parc Astrid (2-2).

The series of undefeated championship matches also still holds. In the meantime, the Mauves have not lost for 17 games. The last defeat dates from October at Standard: 3-2.

For an even more impressive series, we have to go back to the Ariël Jacobs era. In 2010, he remained undefeated for 24 matches, until 5-1 at Standard, when Sporting supporters rioted in the bus parking lot. Sporting’s absolute record is 33 matches without defeat (between 1984 and 1985). The absolute record is held by “Union 60”, which had not lost 60 matches in a row between 1932 and 1935.
