American Danielle Collins Reaches Miami Open Final After Defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova

Danielle Collinsnumber 53 in the world, This Thursday she passed over the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova (n.16) and will face the Kazakh Elena Rybakina (n.4) in the final of the Miami Open.

The American qualified for the first Masters 1,000 final of her career destroying Alexandrova in her semifinal 6-3 and 6-2 in one hour and 15 minutes.

The Russian had so far had a spectacular tournament leaving behind the Polish Iga Swiatek (n.1) and the American Jessica Pegula (n.5).

For its part, Rybakina qualified for her second consecutive final in Miami by beating Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (n.32) by 6-4, 0-6 and 7-6(2) in two hours and 33 minutes.

The Kazakh will try to shake off the regret of last year’s final, in which she ended up losing the title against the Czech Petra Kvitova.

In the final, Collins will play as a ‘local’ (he was born in St. Petersburg, Florida) and will try to win his first Masters 1,000 before his already announced retirement as a professional tennis player at the end of this year.

Rybakina and Collins have met four times with 3-1 in favor of the Kazakh. The American won in San José in 2021 but then fell in Adelaide and the Australian Open (both in 2023) and this same year in Abu Dhabi.
