Los Angeles., 0 Defensive lineman Aaron Donald announced yesterday his retirement from the NFL after an outstanding 10-year career with the Los Angeles Rams.

Donald, 32 years old and a three-time winner as the league’s best defensive player, made the surprise announcement on social media.

He spent his entire career with the Carneros, a team that acquired him in the first round of the draft 2014

A native of Pittsburgh, Donald was selected 10 times a Pro Bowl and in eight for the ideal team All-Pro. He was named the best defensive player in the NFL in 2017, 2018 and 2020.

“Throughout my career, I have given everything to American football, both mentally and physically – I dedicated 365 days a year to becoming the best player possible,” he said in the message he spread on social networks.

I respected this game like no other and am fortunate to complete my NFL career with the same franchise that drafted me. There are very few players who are drafted by team, you win a world championship with that team and you retire with it. Under no circumstances can I detract from that.

Although his height was small compared to the others tackles outstanding, Donald made the most of his dynamism and sagacity to cause anxiety in rival defenses during his career.

He was the leader of the Rams’ defense during his stay, often causing opponents to fail to double-team his teammates. He totaled 111 quarterback takedowns, a franchise record and third most among active players.

His crowning moment came in the Rams’ victory in the 2021 Super Bowl, being in charge of applying the pressure that caused Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow to throw an incomplete pass over the middle on the Bengals’ final play. Los Angeles ended up winning 23-20 to lift the 56th edition Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Honored to have competed against the best of all time! Aaron Donald. Enjoy your retirement and please don’t come back, wrote Kyler Murray (Arizona Cardinals) on X (formerly Twitter), summarizing the relief felt by the quarterbacks of the NFL.
