Chieti Municipality Begins European Tender for Management of Major Sports Facilities

CHIETI. The Municipality puts the five largest sports facilities in the city up for tender. With the green light from the municipal council yesterday morning, the process for the European tender begins which has as its aim the multi-year concession of the Angelini stadium, the Pala Tricalle, the Pala Colle dell’Ara, the baseball stadium and the sports field of Saint martin. «We will proceed with a European tender to identify the managers of our major facilities», say the mayor Diego Ferrara and the sports councilor Manuel Pantalone, «a decision which is in line with the work of relaunching the municipal sports facilities, in order to to ensure maximum functionality and usability both for the associations and sports organizations that operate in the city, and for the facilities themselves which require continuous maintenance”.
The choice to entrust the systems to the private sector is also necessary given the conditions of economic and financial instability of the Municipality which does not allow the institution to have sufficient funds to manage the structures. Ferrara and Pantalone explain that they have thought of mixed assignments, i.e. assignments which, «in addition to management, can allow redevelopment works shared with the municipal structure», continue the mayor and councillor, «the result of economic frameworks which will be placed at the basis of competition”. For Angelini, Tricalle, Colle dell’Ara and baseball, only the renovation of the facilities will have to be carried out, while completion has also been planned for the San Martino field.
From the point of view of the process to follow, «the first act», explain the administrators, «is the delegation to AreaCom, the regional purchasing center, which will take care of the tender experiment. It will be an open procedure, a single tender with five lots, with separate lots awarded, which we hope to define as soon as possible.”
And the controversy over the problems of redevelopment still holds sway over the conditions of the sports fields in the city. The opposition councilor Giampiero Riccardo (Chieti viva) had spoken of serious delays for two sports fields, that of Sant’Anna and Celdit. Pantalone replies on Sant’Anna: «We did everything within the deadlines», says the councillor, «both the signing of the agreement with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the tender procedure. As mentioned, we cannot yet entrust the works because we have to wait for the 20% advance payment from the government, which will happen, as the Sports department of the Prime Minister’s Office itself told us, very shortly. Immediately afterwards we will ask Chieti Calcio for the share and we will be able to entrust the works.”
