AA Gent has big plans: “Like Fredberg and Riemer”

In Ghent, the collaboration with current coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck seems to be coming to an end. There is already plenty of speculation about who his possible successor could be, and to which club Vanhaezebrouck could go.

Ghent is looking for a new coach and TD

The question is not whether Ghent and Vanhaezebrouck will part ways, but when. When his contract expires in June or before the end of the competition? In any case, Ghent will have to look for a successor.

Wim De Coninck states that Ghent will look for a new coach and a new technical director. Chairman Sam Baro has announced that AA Gent is evolving towards a structure with a ‘Manager Sports’ and a ‘Manager Non-sports’.

Like Fredberg and Riemer at Anderlecht

This should help to improve decision-making in transfers and bring more balance to responsibilities within the club. “Do you first look for a coach and then a technical director or vice versa?” asks De Coninck The newspapaer.

“That’s like the story of the chicken and the egg. Oh well, you have to find a combination where the personalities are compatible, such as Fredberg and Riemer at Anderlecht.”

What does Vanhaezebrouck do?

Certain sources linked Hein Vanhaezebrouck to Club Brugge. That ‘rumor’ took on a life of its own. The coach was very clear about a possible departure to Club Brugge. “There is nothing wrong with that at all. That is impossible. If you have worked in Ghent all those years, you will not go to Club Brugge the next year. Maybe never. You have built something with AA Gent and these fans.”

“We have achieved unprecedented things. In 20 years people will still be talking about it. That’s what I stand for. So all those stories about me and Club Brugge: stop it. I also find that completely disrespectful to Ronny Deila, a good colleague,” he clarified.
